Management of Glomerular and Tubular disorders

Rapidly Progressive Glomerulonephritis (ANCA associated GN, Immune complex mediated GN, Goodpasture syndrome)

What are Glomerular and Tubular disorders?

Glomerular disorder

The glomerular disease occurs when the renal glomeruli are damaged and cannot function properly. Glomeruli are the small blood vessels that act as the kidney’s cleansing organs. the glomeruli filter waste from the blood and remove excess fluid.

Causes

  • These include infections, drugs, or chemicals that are harmful to the kidneys
  • Diseases that affect the entire body including the kidneys
  • Diseases that cause swelling and scarring in the nephrons or glomeruli.

Symptoms

  • Foamy urine.
  • Pink or light brown urine.
  • Swelling in your face/around the eye (especially in the morning), hands, feet, or ankles (especially at the end of the day). This swelling is called edema.
  • High blood pressure

Treatment we provide

  • Acute Glomerulonephritis (Post infection GN)
  • Chronic Glomerulonephritis (FSGS, IgA Nephropathy, MPGN)
  • Rapidly Progressive Glomerulonephritis (ANCA associated GN, Immune complex mediated GN, Goodpasture syndrome)

Tubular disorder

Throughout the body, renal tubules help establish the fluid balance between water, salt, and acid necessary for blood level stability, and help eliminate waste products produced during cellular metabolism. In renal tubular acidosis (RTA), the kidneys do not remove acids from the blood into the urine as they should. As a result, blood levels become too high, a condition called acidosis. A few milliliters of blood acid is normal, but too much can disrupt many bodily functions.

Causes

Genetics is a major cause of tubular disorders, especially when the disorder is inherited from one or both parents. Certain medications and some autoimmune diseases may also contribute to tubular disorders.

Symptoms

  • Poor growth
  • Kidney stones
  • Confusion or feeling very tired
  • Fast breathing and heart rate
  • Peeing more often
  • Muscle weakness
  • Muscle cramps and pain in the back and belly

Treatment we provide

  • Renal tubular acidosis
  • Nephronophthisis and Medullary Cystic Kidney Disease in Children
  • Nephrogenic Diabetes Insipidus
  • Cystinosis
  • Hyperoxaluria
